A presente tese teve por finalidade identificar e avaliar as boas práticas sustentáveis de gestão e gerenciamento (BPSGG) de resíduos químicos laboratoriais implementadas em IES públicas nacionais e internacionais, selecionando, subsequentemente, as melhores práticas sustentáveis para o manejo seguro e sustentável de resíduos químicos nestas instituições. Engendrou-se, por meio da aplicação de questionário online em pelo menos uma IES federal de cada estado brasileiro, o Panorama Nacional do status de gestão e gerenciamento dos resíduos químicos nestas instituições federais, ranqueando, subsequentemente, as IES detentoras das melhores boas práticas. A seleção das boas práticas em IES públicas internacionais foi fundamentada por meio do sistema de ranqueamento internacional ou instrumento de avaliação de sustentabilidade denominado como "U.I GreenMetric", ao qual permitiu selecionar as IES internacionais melhores ranqueadas nos respectivos países de cultura de gestão e gerenciamento de resíduos similar ao Brasil como: México, Colômbia e Espanha. O levantamento e sistematização das melhores BPSGG implementadas nas IES nacionais e internacionais públicas, juntamente com a vasta revisão bibliográfica e documental, consolidou-se a proposição dos 20 itens mínimos que devem compor as BPSGG, buscando também a consonância com os ODS 3, 4, 11, 12, 13 e 14 dentre os 17 ODS da ONU. Por meio do desenvolvimento do presente estudo foi possível avaliar, compilar e propor 20 BPSGG, cuja finalidade consiste em auxiliar gestores (as) ambientais de IES brasileiras e latino-americanas no processo de gestão e gerenciamento seguro, sustentável e participativo de resíduos químicos nestas instituições.

The present thesis aims to identify and evaluate good sustainable management practices (GSMP) of laboratory chemical waste implemented in national and international public HEIs, subsequently selecting the best sustainable practices for the safe and sustainable management of chemical waste in these institutions. Through the application of an online questionnaire in at least one federal HEI in each brazilian state, the National Panorama of the management status of chemical waste in these federal institutions was developed, subsequently ranking the HEIs with the best best practices. The selection of good practices in international public HEIs was based on the international ranking system or sustainability assessment instrument called "U.I GreenMetric", which allowed the selection of the best ranked international HEIs in the respective countries of management culture waste similar to Brazil such as: Mexico, Colombia and Spain. The survey and systematization of the best GSMP implemented in national and international public HEIs, and the vast bibliographic review, consolidated the proposition of the 20 minimum items that must compose the GSMP, also seeking consistency with SDGs 3, 4, 11, 12, 13 and 14 among the 17 UN SDGs . Through the development of the present study, it was possible to evaluate, compile and propose 20 GSMP, whose purpose is to assist environmental managers of Brazilian and Latin American HEIs in the process of safe, sustainable and participatory management and management of chemical waste in these institutions.
