Introdução: Sendo o aluno de graduação em Medicina pertencente a uma sociedade onde é valorizada uma prática médica tecnológica e especializada, que pode afastar o médico de uma visão humanista do paciente, a indagação básica preliminar que norteou o processo de construção do objeto de pesquisa foi por que este aluno opta por estudar Acupuntura, que propõe uma abordagem do indivíduo em todas as suas dimensões como ser humano, fundamentando-se em prática generalista e integrativa ser humano/meio, que valoriza o método clínico, no qual é essencial a relação médico-paciente. Objetivos: Caracterizar os discursos sobre formação e prática médica, dos estudantes de Medicina que freqüentaram cursos curriculares e extra-curriculares de Acupuntura na UNIFESP-EPM, assim como identificar visões desses alunos sobre o ensino de Acupuntura na graduação médica. Metodologia: Pesquisa qualitativa, tendo sido entrevistados em profundidade doze estudantes do curso de graduação em Medicina da UNIFESP-EPM, a partir de um roteiro temático. Os alunos entrevistados tiveram formação em Acupuntura em três diferentes oportunidades na Universidade: Acupuntura como disciplina eletiva para alunos do primeiro ao quarto anos médicos, Acupuntura na grade curricular do sexto ano médico e LIGA Acadêmica de Acupuntura. As entrevistas em profundidade foram gravadas e transcritas, sendo interpretadas com a técnica de análise de conteúdo, buscando desvelar unidades de significado que foram analisadas a partir de uma perspectiva socio-antropológica da Medicina. RESULTADOS: Na visão dos alunos, Acupuntura e Medicina Convencional são uma só Medicina, correspondendo à diferentes abordagens do paciente, da doença, da interpretação da sintomatologia do doente, do diagnóstico, da terapêutica e dos prognósticos. Consideram que para ser um bom médico é necessário ter uma visão abrangente do paciente em todos os seus aspectos, na busca de resposta mais completa e satisfatória da prática médica. Os alunos entrevistados constróem suas visões de bom médico sobre uma crítica a um modelo de atenção médica centrada na doença, chamam atenção para o caráter subjetivo da relação médico paciente, sendo a visão holística do doente, pressuposto da Medicina Chinesa motivadora para os nossos sujeitos procurarem o ensino de Acupuntura. Para tanto, consideram importante que o ensino de Acupuntura ocorra em nível de graduação na escola médica, bem como em Residência Médica de Acupuntura. CONSIDERAÇÕES FINAIS: O significado da Acupuntura é estabelecido a partir de uma concepção da Medicina como a de uma prática altamente tecnológica e especializada, levando à percepção de que a prática médica está voltada prioritariamente para a doença e de que há um distanciamento muito grande entre médico e paciente. Estas representações da Medicina levam os alunos a buscarem outras concepções da prática médica, com abordagem holística do paciente, no resgate da relação médico-paciente e com vistas a uma prática mais gratificante para o médico e de melhores resultados para o paciente.

Introduction: Being the medical student part of a society that values the specialized and technological medical practice, which sometimes pushes the doctors away from a more humanistic interpretation of the patient, the main and preliminary thought that guided the process of building the research object of such scientific work was the reason why a medical student chooses to study Acupuncture, that considers and analyses the individual as a hole and complex human being, taking as ground the generalist medical practice as well as the interaction between individual/environment, that values the clinic method, in which is fundamental the doctor/patient relationship. Objective: To observe the main characteristics of the speech on the medical. education and practice of medical students that have attended curricular and extracurricular Acupuncture courses in the UNIFESP-EPM, as well as to identify the opinion of such students on the Acupuncture education on the undergraduate medical studies. Methodology: Qualitative research, with in depth interview of twelve medical students of the UNIFESP-EPM, by means of a thematic script. The interviewed students had asses to Acupuncture education in three different occasions in the university: Acupuncture as an elective subject for students of the first up to the forth year of the medical undergraduate course, Acupuncture as a curricular subject in the sixth year of the medical undergraduate course and the academic LIGA of Acupuncture. The in depth interviews were taped and transcript, being interpreted by the research technical analyzes, aiming to reveal significant unities that were analyzed by a social-anthropological perspective of Medicine. Results: From the student's point of view, Acupuncture and Conventional Medicine are just one Medicine, corresponding to different approaches of the patients, the diseases, the therapy and the prognostic. They believe that in order to be a great doctor, it is necessary to have a comprehensive understanding of the patient, aiming to obtain more complete and satisfactory answers on the medical practice. The interviewed students built their beliefs on "good doctors" based on a critical view of the diseases' focused medical approach, and they also call the attention to the subjective aspects of the doctor/ patient relationship, being, therefore, the holistic interpretation of the patient - premises of the Chinese Medicine, the main reason of the choice for the Acupuncture education by the medical students. In view of that, such students believe in the importance of having Acupuncture both in the undergraduate course and as a Residency Program. Final Considerations: The meaning of Acupuncture is highly linked to the conception of a technological and specialized Medicine, leading to the perception of a disease' focused medical approach in which there is a great gap between doctor and patient. Such interpretation of the Medicine leads the students to search for different conceptions of the medical practice, with a more holistic approach of the patient, and a stronger bond between doctor and patient, aiming to achieve a more rewarding practice to the doctor as well as better results for the patient.
