Este trabalho investiga conhecimentos, atitudes e práticas de pessoal de Unidades da Secretaria de Estado da Saúde de São Paulo, referentes ao aleitamento materno. Foram entrevistados 79 médicos, 12 enfermeiras e 69 auxiliares que dão atendimento a gestantes e mães, Os resultados mostram que o pessoal de saúde despreparado para promover o aleitamento materno, Apresentam-se sugestões sobre conteúdo programático a ser focalizado na preparação de recursos humanos que atuam na área de atenção materno-infantil.

The present survey studies knowledge, attitudes and practices of Health Unit personnel from Health Units of the Secretariate of Health of the State of São Paulo regarding breast feeding . Seventy-nine physicians, twelve nurse sand sixty-nine auxiliary personnel attending on pregnant women and mothers were interviewed. Results show that the members of the Public Health team are not prepared to promete breast feeding. Suggestions are presented regarding program content for preparation of human resources that are involved in mother and child care.
