The aging process field has been characterized as an interdisciplinary investigation, due to the diverse theoretical and methodological currents of thought in this field, as well as the biological, social and psychological natures of its object of study. The concept of life course an heuristic concept- enabled the verification to what extent and allows the enhancement o f the analyses' potentiality both concerning the existing problems in certain fields of knowledge and the detection and analyses of new problems, mainly in Public Health. And one of those possibilities seems to be the inclusion of new life histories. Objectives: To present a theoretical- methodological balance of the scientific production in the field of aging research, mainly concerning the theoretical and methodological perspectives which make use of the life course concept as an analyses resource. To characterize the various processes and events related to the various ways through which the selected women, born between 1926 and 1936, understand and live their process of aging. To verify in what terms the statements of those women suggest new theoretical and methodological reflections which virtually may extend this field of knowledge. Methodology: The twelve women, who were between 62 and 72 years old, were interviewed with the intention of inviting them to freely recount their adult life histories along a certain period, as well as to reveal the ways in which they conceived and lived their own aging process. Their statements were analyzed in terms of the themes related to the aging process, along with other themes which emerged from the text itself. Results: The presented theoretical-methodological balance enabled the verification on how the life course study has been developed as a interdisciplinary investigation field. The life stories revealed that the events which contributed to depict the unfolding of those women's life histories as well as those which influenced their concepts and ways of living their aging process. Conclusions: The unfolding of the adult life of those women was configured in values based on their family of origin, their working lives, and the formation of their own families and children. That factor contributed to characterize the aging process as the exclusion of regular life, that is, the exclusion of the values which characterize their lives. Nevertheless, in terms of living the aging process, some of those women presented a more positive view of aging, through which they recognized the gains and losses of this process. They also felt comfortable and happy about their old age, which was seen as a positive moment in their lives when they can have more time for themselves. The results indicate the understanding of the aging process as an integral part of our existence. Old age should be seen as the continuity of the rest of our adult lives and as something which we have no reason to believe cannot be lived out in a satisfactory manner. The life statements presented on this research indicated that the inclusion of new statements may enable the rising of new problems in this investigation field.
