O estudo foi realizado no Dispensário de Tuberculose do Centro Integrado de Saúde Amaury de Medeiros, localizado na 3a. Área Programática da 1a. Região do Estado de Pernambuco. Teve como objetivo identificar o conhecimento sobre a tuberculose de 101 pacientes recém-diagnosticados de tuberculose pulmonar inscritos no referido Serviço do período de 1º de janeiro a 31 de maio de 1975, e de 52 doentes recidivantes, no período de 1º de janeiro de 1968 a 31 de maio de 1975. O instrumento de investigação empregado foi o formulário preenchido durante entrevistas realizadas no próprio Dispensário e a domicílio. Através da análise dos dados coletados conclui-se que, o conhecimento dos pacientes sobre sua enfermidade foi insignificante principamente no tocante ao mecanismo de transmissão e ao tratamento da doença.

The studies were undertaken at the Tuberculosis Dispensary of the Amaury de Medeiros Integrated Health Center located at the 3rd Programmatic Area of the First Region of the State of Pernambuco. Its purpose was to determine the knowledge on tuberculosis of 101 pulmonary-tuberculoous patients, newly-diagnosed, booked at the mentioned Dispensary during the period of January 1, 1975 to May 31, 1975, and 52 recidivous patients booked during the period of January 1 1968 to May 31 1975 as well. The surveying tool was a questionary filled in during interviews had at home and at the Dispensary itself. Based on the data gathered, we came to the conclusion that patients' knowledge on their infirmity was not significant at all, mainly with respect to communicability and medical treatment of the illness.
