O trabalho Medicina - representações sociais de estudantes sobre a profissão - é um estudo sociológico que objetiva investigar, no espaço simbólico de grupos de estudantes de medicina, as representações sociais que conformam as maneiras pelas quais a profissão é percebida e sentida e os significados que orientam as disposições desses grupos para a ação no campo profissional. Pretende contribuir para a formulação de propostas de aperfeiçoamento do ensino médico que levem em conta o conhecimento da subjetividade do estudante como objeto da formação profissional. Situa historicamente a constituição da medicina como profissão e as suas formas de inserção no mercado de trabalho no Brasil, bem como a evolução do ensino médico, seus impasses e propostas atuais de reformulação. Desenvolve-se a partir de material empírico obtido através de questionários respondidos por 162 estudantes de medicina de duas instituições de ensino superior da Capital e da Grande São Paulo. Utiliza-se de categorias de análise criadas a partir da estratégia metodológica do Discurso do Sujeito Coletivo, que se constitui na recuperação da fala coletiva através da desparticularização de discursos individuais. Resulta na construção de Discursos do Sujeito Coletivo, cujos temas centrais são a vocação, a ajuda ao próximo, o desafio de curar e salvar vidas e o relacionamento humano com o paciente. Analisa aspectos de conservação e transformação dessas representações e o contraste entre elas e a realidade do exercício da profissão hoje no Brasil.

This work Medicina - social representations on the profession by students - is a sociologic study that aims to investigate, in the symbolic realm of medical school student groups, the social representations that conform the ways the profession is perceived and felt and the meanings that guide the dispositions of such groups to act in the professional field. It intends to contribute to the presentation of proposals for the of improvement of the medical learning that take into account the knowledge of the student subjectivity as an object of the professional formation. It places historically the medicine constitution as a profession and its forms of insertion in the Brazilian work market, as well as the evolution of the medical teaching, its stalemates and current proposals of reformulation. It develops from the empirical material obtained through forms answered by 162 medical students from two institutions of higher learning from the Capital and The Greater São Paulo. It utilizes categories of analysis created from a methodological strategy of the Collective Subject Discourse, which is constituted by the recovery of the collective speech through the de-individualization of individual speeches. It results in the construction of the Collective Subject Discourse, whose central themes are the inclination, the help to neighbors, the challenge to heal and save lives and the human relationship with the patient. It analyses aspects of the conservation and transformation of these representations and the contrast between them and the reality of the professional practice in Brazil today.
