The accelerated introduction of organic and mineral nutrients into the lakes and reservoirs, causes in them an increased productivity which frequently provokes the phenomenon know as Water Eutrophication, by itself, responsible for ecological desequilibrium of the aquatic ecossystems and thus making it difficult for these water bodies to perform their basic function, namely, Water Supply. Domestic and industrial wastes, urban stormwaters and run-off from lands are some of the most alochton sources of addition of fertilizers to the water masses. In the present work the biomass variations were evaluated relating them to the climatic factors and other operations of a periodic nature which form part of the agricultural activity in a preponderantly rural hydrographic basin. These evaluations were made through the quantitative Method of Counting of Algal in Sedgwick-Rafter Cell - a simple routine technique employed in research laboratory. An effort was made to improve this technique by previous choice of the size of the most representative sample of the population under investigation. It is believed that, in the tropical regions, the oscillations in the climatic factors contribute less to the biomass in the water reservoirs which maintain their prodution at pratically constant levels all the year round. Small fluctuations in the amount of algal seem to be related more to the operations on the hydraulic systems and the occupation and soil management in the drainage basin which, through the action of wind, rain and irrigation overflows, transport to the water bodies, particulates of organic and mineral substances contributing to the algal boom in these bodies. The results presented here contribute with supporting material in order that those responsible for the decision taking at the legislative level, could plan more rational soil management policies in the drainage basin.
