Objetivo: Avaliar efeito do trabalho em turno diurno e noturno nos trabalhadores do Hospital Universitário da Universidade de ao Paulo. Metodologia: Foi realizado estudo de quarenta trabalhadores no setor de pacientes internos da Clínica Médica. Foram analisadas as atividades executadas em cada tumo.Avaliação de características sócio-demográficas e de bem estar por estudo observacional e resposta a questionário. Resultados: Enfermeiras e técnicos de enfermagem trabalham 6 horas por dia durante quatro manhãs ou tardes e um plantão diurno de 12 horas. O turno noturno segue o esquema tradicional dos hospitais brasileiros com trabalho de 12 horas seguidos por 36 horas de descanso. Observou-se que o esforço físico está associado a posturas desajeitadas dos trabalhadores do turno diurno do horário matutino. Durante esse horário são realizadas atividades que exigem maior esforço físico relacionadas aos cuidados dos pacientes. Observou-se significância estatística associada à dor nas costas e doenças muscu1oesque1éticas e má postura no trabalho. Conclusão: Apesar do pequeno número de participantes foi possível concluir que há necessidade de mobiliário e instrumentos adequados para diminuir a carga física dos trabalhadores e reduzir as queixas de dor nas costas e doenças musculoesqueléticas.

Objective: To evaluate the effects of day and night work among health care workers of University Hospital of São Paulo, Brazil. Methodology: it was carried out study among 40 health care workers, in the sector of intern patients and medical clinic. It was analysed the work activities performed in each shift. Sociodemographic characteristics and well-being was evaluated using an observation and thru a questionnaire. Results: Nurses and nurses aids worked 6 hours a day during 4 morning or afternoon shifts, and one 12- hour dayshift. At night, shifts are of 12 hours. At night it follows the traditional work schedule of Brazilian hospitals, with 12 hours on X 36 hours off. It was observed that physical efforts are related to awkward body postures particularly among diurnal workers, and in the morning shifts. During this time of the day, more activities - physical efforts, related to patients care, take place. It was found an statistically significant association of reported symptoms of back pains and muscleskeletal diseases and bad postures at work. Conclusions: Despite the small number of study participants it was possible to conclude it is necessary to adequate furniture and tools, to decrease the physical load of the workers, and consequently the reported backache complaints and other muscleskeletal diseases.
