Abstract in English
Plants can be affected by air pollution in different mechanisms. The knowledge of air pollution effects in the vegetation and the use of bioindicator to monitor air quality, are still very limited in developing countries. In this study we use two clones of Commelinacea family Tradescantia.order with mutation test in stamen hair of Tradescantia our Trad-SHM. The clone BB430 is worldly known and use to monitor alf, water, and a soil pollution, that are essential to life. Nevertheless, the clone KU20 is highly mutable in low temperature and is less used in situ test. The aim of this work was to evaluate the genotoxic potential of air pollution in Ibirapuera Park, that is located in Sao Paulo city and to test clone KU20 in situ exposition. Forty buds of each clone during on year from September 2002 to August 2003 were collected. The stamen hair of each bud was evaluate concerning the amount of pink cells, with 30 X magnifications by microscope. Results were compared to the CETESB date of air pollution located inside the park. Spearman correlation showed that the variation in the mutation event during the year, using KU 20 is significant and positively correlated to CO, PM10, SO2, NO2 concentration and negatively correlated to air temperature and solar radiation intensity. The clone BNL 4430 also showed significant and positive correlation with the same pollutants. The climate factor didn't show significant relation to the mutation event in BNL 4430. We conclude that these two clones can be used in situ experiment in our climate for this type of test.
