Um dos problemas que têm sido observado constantemente em um dos testes utilizados na avaliação do processamento auditivo - o teste SSW - é o número elevado de erros com sujeitos normais. No Brasil, os testes de processamento auditivo são recentes e estudos que esclareçam o valor de cada teste em nossa realidade têm se mostrado de fundamental importância. Ressalta-se que estudos analisando o aspecto sócio-econômico-cultural e o teste SSW na população brasileira são raros. Assim, o objetivo desta pesquisa foi estudar o desempenho de escolares com nível sócio-econômico-cultural alto no teste SSW e comparar os resultados obtidos com a aplicação do teste SSW nas duas versões BORGES (1986) e MACHADO (1993). A população estudada foi constituída por 108 crianças de 5ª. a 8ª. série, com idade entre 10 e 15 anos, de ambos os sexos, que freqüentavam uma escola da rede particular de ensino do município de São Paulo. Foi realizada a aplicação de questionário aos pais, professores e escolares; a avaliação audiológica convencional; e, aplicado o teste SSW, versão BORGES (1986) e versão MACHADO (1993). Verificou-se um número elevado de crianças com alteração no teste SSW e que as versões não avaliam da mesma maneira os indivíduos. Embora as duas versões existentes para o teste SSW no Brasil necessitem de adequações, a versão MACHADO (1993) foi a que demonstrou maior proximidade com os padrões de normalidade propostos pela versão original. Tanto o nível sócio-econômico-cultural como o material lingüístico mostraram-se importantes neste estudo nos resultados encontrados com a aplicação do teste SSW.

One of the problems that has constantly been observed in one of the tests used in the evaluation of the auditory processing - the SSW Test - is the high number of mistakes with ordinary individuais. In Brazil, the auditory processing tests within our reality, have proved of fundamental importance. It is put in evidence that studies, analyzing the social economic-cultural aspects and the SSW test among the Brazilian population are rare. Thus, the objective of this survey was to study the students performance with high socialeconomic- cultural levei by the SSW test as well to compare the results gotten with the use of the SSW test in the two versions, BORGES (1996) and MACHADO (1993). The studied population was built by 108 children from 5th to 8th degrees, at the ages between 10 and 15 of both sex, that used to study at private schools around São Paulo city. A question form was given to the parents, teachers and students, the audio evaluation was conventional and the test given was the SSW in the versions BORGES (1986) and MACHADO (1993). A high number of children with changes within the SSW test was observed and it was also observed that the versions do not evaluate the individuais on the same way. Though the two available versions of the SSW test in Brazil need adaptations, the MACHADO version (1993) was the one that showed the bigger proximity to the normality standards proposed by the original version. The social-economic-cultural material, as the linguistic material, proved important in this study, in the results reached by the use o f the SSW test.
