Esta dissertação apresenta um estudo sobre o Culto a Ifá no Brasil, que, nas últimas décadas, foi despertado no país a partir da chegada de babalaôs cubanos e nigerianos, ganhando adeptos no segmento religioso afro-brasileiro. Ifá é um sistema divinatório que possibilita acessar Orunmila, a divindade da sabedoria e do destino da tradição iorubá. Também chamado Ifá-Orunmila, é o orixá ao qual o povo iorubá confia a resolução de seus anseios, problemas e conflitos. As pessoas consultam Ifá-Orunmila através de seu sacerdote, o babalaô, responsável por manusear seu oráculo e interpretar seu Corpo Literário constituído por 256 Odus (signos). A pesquisa teve como objetivo compreender as motivações para a adesão ao culto a Ifá afro-cubano no Brasil. Caracterizando-se como uma pesquisa qualitativa, exploratória, teve como procedimentos o estudo de caso e a escuta participante, sob a perspectiva da Etnopsicologia. Concentrou-se no Culto a Ifá da tradição afro-cubana que se solidificou no país a partir da década de 1990, na cidade do Rio de Janeiro, e, atualmente, tem ganhado adeptos em várias regiões do país. Assim, a pesquisa foi realizada em uma casa de Ifá de tradição afro-cubana, que nos permitiu compreender que o Culto a Ifá promove aos seus adeptos desenvolvimento pessoal para expandir seus potenciais enquanto humanos, passando a ter uma vida mais tranquila, harmonizada e alinhada ao destino escolhido para viver na terra. Esse não é um desenvolvimento pessoal qualquer. Envolve uma inscrição africana, tanto na perspectiva de um resgate de uma ancestralidade, como no endereçamento a um destino compatível com essa filiação, pois o Culto a Ifá promove aos seus adeptos um aprimorado autoconhecimento ao lhes permitirem a possibilidade de acessar o próprio destino que escolheram para viver e de se reconectarem com seus ancestrais.

This research presents a study on the Cult of Ifá in Brazil, which, in the last decades, has been awakened in the country, with the arrival of Cuban and Nigerian babalawos, gaining followers in the African-Brazilian religious segment. Ifá is a divinatory system that makes it possible to access Orunmila, the deity of wisdom and destiny of the Yoruba tradition. Also called Ifá-Orunmila, it is the orisha to which the Yoruba people entrust the resolution of their aspirations, problems and conflicts. People consult Ifá-Orunmila through their priest, the babalawo, responsible for handling the oracle and interpreting the Literary Corpus consisting of 256 Odus (signs). The research aimed to comprehend the motivations for joining the African-Cuban Cult of Ifá in Brazil. It is characterized as a qualitative and exploratory research, the procedures of which were the study case and participant listening, under the perspective of the Ethnopsychology. It focused on the Cult of Ifá from the Afro-Cuban tradition that solidified in the country from the 1990s onwards, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, and, currently, has gained adherents in various regions of the country. Thus, the research was carried out on an Ifá house of African-Cuban tradition, which allowed us to understand that the Cult of Ifá promotes personal development to its adherents to expand their potentials as human beings, leading to a more tranquil, harmonized life, aligned to the chosen destiny to live on earth. This personal development is not just any development. It involves an African inscription, both from the perspective of rescuing an ancestry, and addressing a destiny compatible with this filiation, for the Cult of Ifá provides to its followers an improved self-knowledge by allowing them the possibility of accessing the very destination they have chosen to live and to reconnect with their ancestors.
