O objetivo desta pesquisa consistiu em analisar a participação de mães e pais na socialização e escolarização de filhos de ambos os sexos, que eram irmãos e que compunham uma fratria. O estudo em questão foi desenvolvido através de entrevistas com famílias cujos rendimentos giravam em torno de dois a quatro salário mínimos na época da pesquisa, com mais de um filho frequentando o ensino fundamental ou médio em escolas públicas da cidade de Serrana - SP. Procurou-se investigar como mães e pais atuam individualmente e em conjunto na socialização dos filhos, como orientam o processo de escolarização visando a futura inserção da prole no mercado de trabalho, se há estímulos para eventual continuidade dos estudos além do ensino médio, se há diferenças no modo como cada um dos genitores atua nesses processos e se participam de modo diferencial na orientação de filhos e filhas de acordo com a posição destes no interior da fratria. Os dados foram coletados através de entrevistas gravadas e transcritas integralmente, de acordo com roteiro semiestruturado e foram realizadas com cinco mães e cinco pais, no total de dez genitores e foram analisados com referenciais teóricos da sociologia e da antropologia.

The objective of this research is to analyze the participation of mothers and fathers in the socialization and schooling of children of both sexes, who are brothers and make up a fratria. The study in question was developped through research with low-income families whose income reaches five minimum salaries at the time of the research, with more than one child attending primary or secondary education in public schools in the city of Serrana - SP. It investigated how mothers and fathers act individually and together in the socialization of their children, how they guide the schooling process, aiming at the future insertion of the offspring in the labor market, if there are stimuli for eventual continuation of studies beyond high school, if there is differences in the way in which each of the parents acts in these processes and participate in a differential way in the orientation of sons and daughters according to their position within the fratria. It was also verified the possible existence of the favorite child. The data was collected through recorded interviews and transcribed integrally, according to a semi-structured script and was carried out with five mothers and five parents, in the total of ten parents and it was analyzed with theoretical references of sociology and anthropology.
