Abstract in English
The purpose of the hospital class is to continue the schooling process (teaching/learning), favoring the student's return to school in a condition to continue schooling and also to ensure interaction with teachers in the regular class, with a view to define pedagogical practices in line with the school curriculum. This service, therefore, represents a way to maintain the bond between hospitalized children and the school and consequently, health recovery. The present study had as general objective to understand the organization and functioning of hospital classes in a state public hospital in the State of São Paulo and the initial and continuing education of teachers, and as specific objectives: to analyze the organization and functioning of Hospital Classes with focus on planning and Pedagogical practices; identify the interaction strategies between teachers from hospital classes and teachers from the regular school of students, in the areas of planning and curriculum; and characterize the initial and continuing education of teachers who work in hospital classes. This is a study with a qualitative approach. Three teachers from hospital classes who work in a state public hospital located in the interior of the state of São Paulo participated in the study. As a data collection procedure, an interview with a semi-structured script was used. The interviews were recorded and transcribed in full. Data was analyzed using Content Analysis. The data obtained was analyzed according to the categories: Teacher education and identity and Organization of Pedagogical work. As a result, it was found that only initial training does not provide teachers with knowledge to face the challenges imposed by the hospital environment, thus indicating the importance of continuing education. In addition, it was observed that the physical and material conditions of the hospital classes are distinct, resulting in inequalities in hospital school care for students, as well as a welfare view regarding the purpose of this service, to the detriment of the right to education. Furthermore, it was noted that there is no consensus among the teachers regarding the link between the Hospital Class and the Special Education area. Also, the participants recognize that the students' specificities, identified in the Pedagogical listening process, must guide the Pedagogical planning and practices. The testimonies also indicated aspects of the interaction network of the teachers participating in the study with health professionals, the regular school and the linking school. Specifically on the configuration of this service during the COVID-19 pandemic, it was found that the hospital school service provided by the investigated classes was interrupted and, during this period, the teachers worked remotely with students from the linking school, thus indicating the absence service to hospitalized students, preventing the fulfillment of the right to education. Finally, it is concluded that there is a lack of specific legislation on hospital classes nationwide, in order to define the field of care, the conditions that permeate it, the processes of initial and continuing teacher education. The results revealed significant knowledge about the organization of care and teacher training, which can contribute to the expansion and improvement of this service.
