Abstract in English
This work, called "To govern the poor: Cândido Motta and the problem of minors in the city of São Paulo (1902-1935)", aims to analyze and punctuate the institutional trajectory of Cândido Motta, an important figure in the political and legal scenarios of the city of São Paulo during the First Republic (1890-1930), especially with regard to the re-education of minor offenders "in specialized institutions that developed at the time, for example, the Instituto Disciplinar Paulista. As a guideline for this study, we are guided by works produced by Motta throughout his public life, including books and reports, and, for this, we try to identify in these writings its main conceptions about the identification, classification, control, government, guardianship and withdrawal of this destitute and abandoned childhood that he walked the streets of the state capital in a scenario of intense social tensions.
