Esta pesquisa busca discernir sobre os interesses de divulgação, projeção e propagação da referida instituição, cujas narrativas jornalísticas enaltecem seus serviços prestados, na forma de arrecadações junto à sociedade mais abastada para a destinação de donativos aos pobres. A estratégia traz notoriedade e visibilidade histórica ao papel da primeira Dama Darcy Vargas, àqueles que fizeram doações e às figuras públicas que atuaram como diretores (as) e voluntários (as). Pensando assim, problematizamos os conceitos de assistencialismo e assistência social, duas práticas distintas realizadas por instituições sociais nessa época e sobre qual desses dois paradigmas a LBA se firmou. Refletimos, em hipótese, se a primeira promoveu a estagnação da pobreza, enquanto que a segunda, teria sido mais recomendada, por objetivar a melhoria das condições de vida das crianças, tornando-as autônomas e protagonistas de sua história. Verificamos ainda, as proporções historicamente participativas da LBA na construção da própria representação social e seus entrecruzamentos com o paradigma do tratamento dado à normatização da infância pobre nesse período. Para isso, buscamos analisar publicações sobre a LBA nos três jornais pioneiros: Correio Paulistano, A Cidade e A Tarde, de Ribeirão Preto. Sobre eles, consideramos os aspectos vanguardistas, reformistas, liberais republicanos, persuasivos, tendenciosos, políticos, comerciais, cuja liberdade de expressão foi tolhida pela censura, fato que norteou a narrativa. Conferimos ainda as matérias relacionadas à infância pobre, guardadas na Biblioteca Nacional Digital Brasil e no Arquivo Público e Histórico deste município.

This research seeks to discern the interests of dissemination, projection and propagation from such institution, whose journalistic narratives praise their given services, in the form of collections from the wealthiest society for the allocation of donations to the poor people. The strategy brings historical notoriety and visibility to the role of the First Lady Darcy Vargas, as well as those who made donations and those public figures who acted as directors and volunteers. With this in mind, we problematized the concepts of welfare and social assistance, two distinct practices carried out by social instituitions at that time and on which two paradigms LBA was based. We hypothesized whether the first promoted the stagnation of poverty, while the second would have been more recommended, as it aimed to improve the living conditions of children, making them autonomous and protagonists of their history. We also verified the historically participatory proportions of LBA in the construction of its own social representation and its intersections with the paradigm of treatment given to the normalization of poor childhood in that period. For this, we sought to analyze the publications on LBA in three pioneer newspapers: 'Correio Paulistano', 'A Cidade' and 'A Tarde', from Ribeirão Preto.Regarding them we considered their avant-garde, reformist, republican liberal, persuasive, biased, political and commercial aspects, whose freedom of expression was hampered by censorship, a fact that guided the narrative. We also checked as matters related to poverty in the period of childhood, stored in the 'Biblioteca Digital Nacional Brasil', and in the 'Arquivo Público e Histórico', (The Public and Historical Archive) of this municipality.
