Esta pesquisa investigou e analisou se e como pais e mães de alunos de uma escola de ensino fundamental de um bairro periférico de Ribeirão Preto SP promovem a socialização e incentivam a escolarização dos filhos, como transferem a eles princípios básicos de cidadania relacionados a direitos e deveres e se essas orientações são diferentes segundo o sexo dos genitores e de filhos e filhas e ainda como avaliam a qualidade do ensino oferecido pela escola na formação da cidadania. Para isso, foi necessário investigar o conhecimento que mães e pais têm sobre cidadania e quais informações sobre o trabalho que a escola desenvolve nesse sentido. Para responder a essas perguntas foram realizadas entrevistas de modo remoto com cinco mães e cinco pais de alunos de uma escola de um bairro periférico de Ribeirão Preto, ocupado por população de baixa renda, com questões pertinentes à construção da cidadania, à qualidade e quantidade dos conteúdos oferecidos para a formação cidadã e às relações dos filhos no espaço escolar. Os dados coletados foram analisados de acordo com os referenciais teóricos da sociologia.

The aim of this paper is to investigate and analyze if and how fathers and mothers of students from an elementary school in a peripheral neighborhood of Ribeirão Preto SP promote socialization and encourage the schooling of their children, how they transfer basic principles of citizenship related to rights and duties to them and if these orientations are different according to the sex of the parents and sons and daughters and also how they evaluate the quality of the education offered by the school in the formation of citizenship. For this, it was necessary to investigate the knowledge wich mothers and fathers have about citizenship and what information about the work that the school develops in this regard. To answer these questions, interviews were carried out remotely with five mothers and five fathers of students from a school in a peripheral neighborhood, occupied by low-income population, with questions related to the construction of citizenship, the quality and quantity of contents offered for citizenship training and children's relationships in the school space. The collected data were analyzed according to the theoretical references of sociology.
