Ao longo das últimas quatro décadas, e especialmente a partir da década de 2000, observamos um progressivo aumento das pesquisas realizadas em Educação Ambiental (EA). Assim, esse campo vem acumulando conhecimento produzido na forma de teses e dissertações e é nesse cenário que se encaixa este trabalho. A presente pesquisa está inserida no âmbito do Projeto EArte - Estado da Arte da Pesquisa em Educação Ambiental no Brasil, e tem como objetivo traçar um perfil (ou perfis) dos pesquisadores em Educação Ambiental. Para tal, buscamos conhecer suas características pessoais, de formação inicial e continuada, profissionais, bem como suas trajetórias para e durante a pesquisa em EA. Para essa investigação, fizemos um levantamento dos pesquisadores que mais orientaram trabalhos presentes no banco, respeitando um parâmetro de, ao menos, 15 trabalhos orientados. Realizamos, posteriormente, sete entrevistas e estas constituíram o nosso objeto de análise. Trata-se de uma pesquisa de natureza qualitativa, que utilizou as técnicas de Análise de Conteúdo na leitura e estudo dos documentos obtidos. Após a exploração do material, construímos as nossas categorias: 'memórias', 'trabalho' e 'concepções'. Apresentamos e discutimos os resultados a partir de trechos das falas dos pesquisadores e dos referenciais teóricos escolhidos, caracterizando o campo da EA e da pesquisa em EA e retratando aspectos que constituíram a trajetória e a carreira dos pesquisadores. Observando a pluralidade do campo, demonstramos, inicialmente, entre os entrevistados, três distintas formações iniciais, realização do doutorado na área da Educação e vínculos com instituições públicas de ensino superior. Apresentamos os processos de aproximação e identificação dos pesquisadores com a temática ambiental, os caminhos para institucionalização e a efetiva atuação como pesquisador, temas privilegiados e trabalhos desenvolvidos na área que caracterizam suas trajetórias enquanto pesquisadores, bem como suas concepções a respeito da questão ambiental, da pesquisa e do pesquisador em EA. Notamos, também, um forte engajamento e indissociabilidade entre a escolha da carreira e hábitos cotidianos, a importância do entendimento dos motivos e razões pelos quais atingimos o atual cenário de degradação ambiental e a busca por caminhos para uma justiça socioambiental. Dessa forma, procuramos delinear esse perfil, detalhando-o a partir das práticas e percepções dos pesquisadores e qualificando essa multiplicidade que caracteriza o campo.

Over the last four decades, and especially since the 2000s, we have observed a progressive increase in the research carried out in Environmental Education (EE). Thus, this field has been accumulating knowledge produced in the form of theses and dissertations and it is within this scenario that this work fits. This research is set in the context of the EArte Project - State of Art of Research in Environmental Education in Brazil - and aims to draw a profile (or profiles) of researchers in Environmental Education. To this end, we sought to understand their personal characteristics, the characteristics of their initial and continuing training, and their professional characteristics, as well as their trajectories towards and during their EA research. To develop this investigation, a survey was carried out of the researchers who supervised the most work present in the bank, respecting a parameter of at least fifteen supervised works. We carried out, subsequently, seven interviews, which constituted our object of analysis. This is a qualitative research that used Content Analysis techniques to read and study the documents obtained. After exploring the material, we built our categories: 'memories', 'work' and 'conceptions'. We presented and discussed the results based on the exposition of excerpts taken from the researchers' interviews and from the chosen theoretical references, characterizing the field of EA and research in EA, and portraying aspects that constituted the trajectories and careers of the researchers. Observing the plurality of the field, we initially demonstrated, among the interviewees, three different initial trainings, completion of a doctorate degree in the area of Education and links with public higher education institutions. We presented the researchers' processes of moving toward and identifying themselves with the topic of the environment, the paths that led them to their current positions in their institutions and to their actual performances as researchers, the work they have developed in the area and their favored themes that characterize their trajectories as researchers. as well as their conceptions regarding EE research, researchers, and the issue of the environment. We also noted a strong engagement and inseparability between one's career choice and one's daily habits, the importance of understanding the reasons why we have reached the current scenario of environmental degradation and the importance of searching for paths to socio-environmental justice. In this way, we seek to outline this profile, detailing it based on the practices and perceptions of researchers and qualifying this multiplicity that characterizes the field.
