O esporte é um fenômeno sociocultural e, como tal, integra-se e transforma-se de acordo com a cultura e os costumes da sociedade em que se insere. Nela se estrutura, também a estruturando e, por ela, é estruturado. Na configuração contemporânea, assume elasticidade semântica e formas heterogêneas de manifestação. Interage com diversos campos sociais e constitui, ele próprio, o espaço relativamente autônomo em que concorrem normas, regras e capitais próprios do campo esportivo. Neste, por sua vez, se insere o subcampo esportivo do xadrez. No espaço de disputas do qual pertence esta prática, essencialmente meritocrático e cujo "dom" ou "talento" recebe quase sempre uma concepção substancialista, as relações entre a origem social dos sujeitos e a sua trajetória no esporte encontram-se, usualmente, ignoradas. Neste sentido, a posição e os capitais anteriormente adquiridos pelos sujeitos, sobretudo o cultural, propiciariam o acúmulo de uma herança decisiva para o alcance do sucesso esportivo. Ao concretizar uma série de mecanismos de seleção e de classificação, o esporte - sobretudo em alto rendimento - efetuaria, assim, a distinção entre os detentores do capital herdado e aqueles que não o possuem, reforçando diferenças culturais, sociais e econômicas relativas aos processos educacionais reprodutores desta herança. Deste modo, desvelar de que modo foram transmitidas e produzidas as disposições relacionadas à herança da prática do xadrez se faz importante entre a elite desta modalidade. O objetivo deste estudo consistiu, assim, em investigar as condições de transmissão e os sentidos de produção das disposições relacionadas à prática do xadrez na trajetória esportiva de Grandes Mestres brasileiros. A abordagem qualitativa de pesquisa foi utilizada a fim de identificar e analisar em profundidade tal problemática. O grupo de participantes foi composto pela totalidade dos 12 jogadores brasileiros que detêm a certificação de maior distinção desta modalidade, o título de Grande Mestre (GM). Os dados foram produzidos por meio de entrevistas retrospectivas semiestruturadas e analisados por meio da Análise Temática. Esperou-se, por fim, oferecer subsídios sobre a constituição social dos processos socializadores capazes de construir o sucesso esportivo. Em oposição às concepções naturalizadoras e meritocráticas que atribuem aos desempenhos dos praticantes esportivos a presença ou a falta de "dons" e "talentos" predestinados, o desvelar de suas bagagens sociais, herdadas ou não, pôde-se mostrar fecunda alternativa para refutar a própria produção de desigualdades causadas por sua manifestação oculta.

Sport is a sociocultural phenomenon that integrates and transforms itself according to the culture and habits of the society in which it is inserted. It is structured, also structuring and being structured by it. In the contemporary configuration, sport assumes semantic elasticity and heterogeneous forms of manifestation. It interacts with several social fields and constitutes the relatively autonomous space in which norms, rules and sports field's capitals compete among them. Within this is inserted the sports subfield of chess. Within the field of disputes in which this essentially meritocratic practice belongs, and whose "gift" or "talent" almost always receives a substantialist conception, the relations between the social origin of the subjects and their trajectory in sport are usually ignored. In this sense, the position and capital previously acquired by the subjects, especially the cultural one, would propitiate the accumulation of a decisive inheritance for the achievement of the sport success. In making a series of selection and classification mechanisms, sport - especially in high performance - would thus distinguish between the holders of inherited capital and those who do not, reinforcing cultural, social and economic differences related to educational processes of this heritage. In this way, to reveal in what way the dispositions related to the inheritance of the practice of the chess were transmitted and produced becomes important among the elite players of this modality. The aim of this study was to investigate the conditions of transmission and the meanings of production of the dispositions related to the practice of chess in the sporting trajectory of Brazilian Chess Grandmasters. The qualitative research approach was used to identify and analyze this goal in depth. The group of participants was composed by all 12 Brazilian players who hold the highest distinction level of this modality, the title of Grandmaster (GM). The data were produced through semistructured retrospective interviews and analyzed through the Thematic Analysis method. Finally, it was hoped to offer subsidies on the social constitution of the socializing processes capable of building the sport success. In opposition to the naturalizing and meritocratic conceptions that attribute the presence or lack of predestined "gifts" and "talents" to the players performances, the unveiling of their social baggage, whether inherited or not, could be a fruitful alternative to refute one's own inequalities caused by their hidden manifestation.
