Abstract in English
Glioma is considered the most common type of tumor originating in the central nervous system. Currently, the treatment for glioblastoma depends on the location, the cell type in question, and the degree of malignancy. The therapeutic approach consists of a combination of different procedures, such as surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, which have a low prognosis. With this, the proposals of this study aim to develop and explore nanobiotechnology with practical and clinical applications of photodynamic therapy, with the use of nanocarriers such as cannabinoids (CBD) and photosensitizers (PS): indocyanine green (ICG) and protoporphyrin IX (PpIX ), to circumvent common limitations in the prognosis, treatment, and recovery of neurological diseases. The first focus of this work was to develop a nanoemulsion with all the components described above, together with the quantification studies and stability evaluations. The use of nanobiotechnology has been little explored in the neurological sciences as a way of delivering drugs to the central nervous system; Nanobiological materials have great versatility in providing continuous and programmed release of drugs through drug encapsulation, in addition to maintaining them in adequate concentrations, when necessary, within the central nervous system. This direct administration avoids undesirable systemic effects, prevents difficulty penetrating the Blood-brain barrier and the loss of biological activity of the drug due to first-pass metabolism through the hepatic system.
