Keywords in Portuguese
Abelhas
Entomologia
Title in English
Characterization of the activity/rest rhythm of free running of Scaptotrigona aff depilis (Moure, 1942) (Hymenoptera, Apidae, Meliponinae)

Entomology
Abstract in English
The free-running period of activity and rest in foragers of S. aff. depilis (Moure, 1942) is approximately 23 h under constant light. When entrainied to the natural photoperiod, the activity is more precisely restricted to the photophase segment of the entraining cycle. Thus the circadian rhythm is the principal 'zeitgeber'. Through observations of the activity in the exit-tube it could be shown, that evident phototaxis and antecipatory behaviour occurs in S. aff. depilis. The antecipatory behaviour is displayed even under not optimal conditions of light and temperature.
