Abstract in English
Malocclusions present a major challenge in Public Health, as they are highly prevalent and negatively affect the quality of life and psychological well-being of affected individuals. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of malocclusion on the oral health-related quality of life of children in the mixed dentition phase in Bragança Paulista (SP). A total of 648 schoolchildren aged 8 to 13.3 years, belonging to the School Health Program, were evaluated. The students were examined according to the parameters established by the components of the IOTN (Index of Orthodontic Treatment). The children were also submitted to a quality of life interview related to oral health, using the Child Perceptions Questionnaire (CPQ) CPQ 8-10 or CPQ 11-14 (short version). The collected data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially, with CPQ as the dependent variable. After performing regression models considering the relationships between quality of life scores with the four CPQ domains, a positive coefficient was observed for female sex and class III canine relationship for CPQ-SO (oral symptoms). For CPQ-LF (functional limitations) and CPQ-BES (social well-being), the most significant values recorded were for the covariates female gender and extensive caries. For CPQ-BEE (emotional well-being) the most significant coefficient was female. Regarding the total CPQ score, the variable sex and extensive caries presented statistically significant coefficients.
