Abstract in English
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of sealing materials for root perforations (Biodentine, MTA Proroot, MTA flow and Amalgam) in changing the dimension of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images using the Blooming Artefact Reduction algorithm. One hundred and five extracted human mandibular first and second molars were selected, prepared and filled. The root perforation was performed at the furcal level. Specimens were randomly distributed into 5 groups according to the sealing material: 1. Biodentine, 2. MTA Proroot, 3. MTA flow, 4. Amalgam, 5. Control (absence of material). After the setting time, the specimens were positioned and the crowns were sectioned to measure the actual diameters of the sealing materials in the perforations using a digital micrometer. CBCT images were acquired using the Prexion 3D Elite® CT scanner. To measure the volumes of the materials in the CBCT images, the DICOM file and the CBCT e-Vol DX software measurement tool were used, configured for thousandths measurements. The Blooming Artefact Reduction algorithm - BAR 3 - was used to evaluate the control group and for the sealing materials: Biodentine and MTA flow. For MTA Proroot and Amalgam, BAR 2 and BAR 1 algorithms were used, respectively. Statistical data were evaluated by analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's test with a significance level of 5%. The results showed that the measurements of the diameters of the sealing materials (Biodentine, MTA Proroot, MTA flow and amalgam), using the algorithm for the reduction of blank artifacts in the e-Vol DX software and the micrometer, did not show significant differences between them (p> 0.05). The application of the BAR algorithm of the e-Vol DX software did not produce dimensional changes in the CBCT images of the different studied sealing materials.
