O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar o efeito do uso do extrato de limoneno na resistência de união (RU) à dentina radicular de dentes tratados endodonticamente. Raízes unirradiculares foram selecionadas e instrumentadas pela técnica reciprocante (Wave One Gold®, Dentsply/Maillefer, Ballaigues, Suíça). Posteriormente, foram divididas aleatoriamente em três grupos (n=24) de acordo com o agente irrigador final utilizado: hipoclorito de sódio (NaOCl) a 2.5%, ácido etilenodiaminotetracético (EDTA) a 17% e extrato de Limoneno a 5%. As raízes foram novamente divididas (n=12) e obturadas pela técnica de cone único com o cimento à base de resina epóxica (AH Plus®, Dentsply De Trey, Konstanz, Alemanha) e o cimento biocerâmico (Bio-C Sealer®, Angelus, Londrina, PR, Brasil). Após obturação, as raízes foram armazenadas a 37 ºC por 3 dias e então seccionadas transversalmente em fatias (slices) de 2 mm de espessura, obtendo-se duas fatias de cada terço radicular. As fatias foram submetidas ao teste de push-out, com velocidade de 0.5 mm/min, e posterior análise do padrão de falha. Os dados de RU foram analisados por 3-way ANOVA e pós-teste de Tukey (p<.05). A distribuição dos padrões de falha foi expressa em porcentagem e comparada entre os grupos por meio do teste de exato de Fischer. Analisando a RU dos terços radiculares em relação aos tratamentos realizados, para cada um dos cimentos, verificou-se que houve maior RU à dentina utilizando o cimento à base de resina epóxi quando o canal foi irrigado com EDTA (5,0 ± 2,3) do que com NaOCl (1,8 ± 1,1) (p=0,0005) no terço cervical. A irrigação com limoneno resultou em valores intermediários em relação aos demais irrigadores (3,5 ± 1,9), sem diferença estatisticamente significante em relação a eles (p>0,05). Quando o cimento biocerâmico foi utilizado, houve maior RU para o terço apical, quando tratado com limoneno (9,4 ± 5,0) diferente dos outros terços (p<0,05) e diferente dos demais tratamentos (p<0,05). O padrão de falha mais prevalente na união cimento e dentina foi o misto, independente do tratamento à dentina e cimento utilizado. Conclui-se que a associação do limoneno com o cimento biocerâmico apresentou valores de RU superiores no terço apical indicando, efeito promissor para seu uso como solução irrigadora final em tratamentos endodônticos.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of limonene extract on the bond strength (BS) to endodontically treated root dentin. Single-rooted teeth were selected and instrumented with a reciprocating system (Wave One Gold®, Dentsply/Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland). Subsequently, they were randomly divided into three groups (n=24) according to the final irrigation solution used: 2.5% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), 17% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), and 5% Limonene extract. The roots were further divided (n=12) and obturated using the single-cone technique with either epoxy resin-based (AH Plus®, Dentsply De Trey, Konstanz, Germany) or bioceramic root canal sealer (Bio-C Sealer® cement, Angelus, Londrina, PR, Brazil). After obturation, the roots were stored at 37 °C for 3 days and then sectioned transversely into 2-mm-thick slices, obtaining two slices from each root third. The slices were submitted to push-out test, at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min, followed by analysis of failure pattern. BS data were analyzed using 3-way ANOVA and Tukey's post hoc test (p<.05). The distribution of failure pattern was expressed as percentage and compared between groups using the Fisher's exact test. Analyzing the BS of the root thirds in relation to the treatments, for each of the root canal sealer, it was found that there was higher BS to dentin using the epoxy resin-based sealer when the canal was irrigated with EDTA (5.0 ± 2.3) than with NaOCl (1.8 ± 1.1) (p=0.0005) on cervical third. Irrigation with limonene resulted in intermediate values compared to the other irrigants (3.5 ± 1.9), with no difference related to them (p>.05). When the bioceramic root canal sealer was used, there was higher BS in apical third when treated with limonene (9.4 ± 5.0) different from the other thirds (p<0.05). The most prevalent failure pattern between root canal sealer and dentin was mixed, regardless of the dentin treatment and sealer used. It can be concluded that the association of limonene with bioceramic root canal sealer showed superior bond strength values in the apical third, indicating a promising effect to be used as a final irrigant solution in endodontic treatments.
