Abstract in English
In recent years, issues related to mental health at all stages of life have gained prominence. The emergence of COVID-19 pandemic directly and indirectly affects peoples mental health in several aspects, implying a worrying public health condition. In this context, it is essential to adopt preventive measures to guarantee working conditions, mitigating contamination and transmission of SARS-CoV-2 virus. The present study aimed to evaluate adherence to measures to prevent COVID-19 transmission and its relation to mental suffering and workload of professionals from the Planning Department of the State of Piauí (SEPLAN-PI) through the regression model logistics. This is a cross-sectional descriptive study with a quantitative approach, carried out with 141 professionals, from February to April 2022. Data collection instruments were applied, including: sociodemographic variables, professional profile, health and safety conditions at professionals workplace, checklist on adherence to preventive measures, guidance on COVID-19, Self-Report Questionnaire-20 (SRQ-20) scales assessing mental health and National Aeronautics and Space Administration Task Load Index (NASA-TLX) evaluating workload. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS® version 26.0 software. It was found that preventive measures against flu syndrome and COVID-19 were highly accepted among servers, in particular mask use and hands hygiene with either soap or alcohol gel. About the guidelines, participants mentioned the availability of sink with soap and water, and 1.5-meter distancing. Moreover, 45.2% of servers were classified as having mental suffering, with greater chance among women and commissioners. In terms of health and safety conditions, employees with flu symptoms on preceding 30 days and those working without protection were those more likely to develop common mental suffering. Preventive and guidance measures for flu syndrome and COVID-19 were unrelated to mental illness. Workload assessment using NASA-TLX questionnaire showed higher values in factors Performance, Effort and Mental Demand. The study found that adherence to preventive measures is an actual reality among employees. It was also observed that 45.2% showed signs of mild mental disorder; however, there was no evidence of association between adherence to prevention measures and community guidance, flu syndrome and COVID-19 in relation to common mental suffering.
