O desenvolvimento das competências estatísticas nas escolas inseridas na sociedade contemporânea requer dos seus participantes a consciência plena da importância deste tema para o cidadão de hoje. Dessa forma, a pesquisa teve como objetivo analisar as contribuições potenciais do uso do software R no desenvolvimento das competências estatísticas propostas para o Ensino Médio. Para isso, foi realizado um estudo de caso com as técnicas de observação participante e aplicação de questionário, junto aos alunos do Ensino Médio de uma escola pública estadual, utilizando-se de análise de dados qualitativa. Os resultados deste trabalho indicaram que as atividades propostas nesta dissertação podem direcionar futuros pesquisadores interessados em desenvolver atividades específicas com o software R para a educação básica, pois através da observação participante, com base nos conteúdos propostos, notamos indícios de desenvolvimento de competências estatísticas, além de indícios de apropriação da linguagem de programação. Assim, espera-se com essa pesquisa, contribuir para a melhoria do ensino público, refletindo sobre o processo do desenvolvimento das competências estatísticas, levantando as potencialidades do uso do software R junto ao Ensino Médio.

The development of statistical skills in schools within contemporary society requires that its participants be fully aware of the importance of this topic for the citizen of today. Thus, the research aimed to analyze the potential contributions of the use of R software in the development of statistical competences proposed for the high school. For this, a case study was carried out with the techniques of participant observation and application of a questionnaire, with high school students from a state public school, using qualitative data analysis. The results of this work indicated that the activities proposed in this dissertation can direct future researchers interested in developing specific activities with the R software for basic education, because through participant observation, based on the proposed contents, we noticed signs of development of statistical skills, in addition to signs of appropriation of the programming language. Thus, it is expected with this research, to contribute to the improvement of public education, reflecting on the process of developing statistical skills, raising the potential of the use of R software in high school
