Abstract in Portuguese
A matemática modela a realidade e a descreve.

Abstract in English
Mathematics and Astronomy have been closely linked since ancient times. The Greeks interpreted Astronomy as a part of mathematics, and they were responsible for creating various geometric models that determined relationships between stars in the universe. Mathematics models reality and describes it. With its help, it was possible to discover, quantify, systematize patterns and even determine positions of stars in the universe through their coordinates. Thus, hundreds of dissertations and theses are defended every year, however, few are related to Spherical Geometry and, in great part, lack a better detail. The interest in knowing more about phenomena related to Astronomy arises through the curiosity of the students themselves. In this sense, we want, in this work, to recognize the fundamental role that Mathematics has in Astronomy, by determining the referencing of the stars, and to present a mathematical model of the Coordinate System that helps in a better understanding of its concepts.
