The main objective of the present work is to discuss the importance of using games in math classes. The particular goals are: 1) Understand what skills are developed by using games; 2) Comprehend how the methodology of Problem Solving can be used associated with a game in math classes and 3) Provide for math teachers of elementary school resources to teach probability and combinatorial analysis using a dice game called Yahtzee. A theoretical study was done trying to show how relevant is using games and problem solving in math classes and from that an activity to teach probability and combinatorial analysis using Yahtzee was suggested. Based on this discussion and the initial experience of application of the activity it was possible to understand about the socializing role of the games because they stimulate mathematical literacy and the games rules learning encouraged the development of the ability to organize and stimulate the creativity of problem solving. As well, we could realize that the chosen game promoted the mobilization of mathematical knowledge, such as mental calculation, data processing and initial discussions about the calculation of probabilities.
