Introduction: Exposure to high sound pressure levels for prolonged period can cause noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) and tinnitus in individuals of any age. In order to develop and encourage hearing healthcare actions, several projects have been proposed around the world. Among them, Dangerous Decibels® has performed excellently when improving awareness and prevention of hearing loss in children and adolescents. Objective: To study the effect of the Dangerous Decibels® program on elementary school students and their families. Materials and Methods: 58 elementary school children participated in this study - 29 were in the control group (GCc) and 29 were in the study group (GEc). Parents/guardians were also invited to participate (GEp - parents study group; GCp - parents control group). The Dangerous Decibels® standard material has been used, consisting of a validated questionnaire and the materials of the interactive workshops; a video composed of several short films; and an online game developed in the research. The study was divided in three stages - Stage 1, when the intervention took place in GEc, the application of the pre-intervention (to all groups) and post-intervention (to the GEc) questionnaires; Stage 2, when the post-3-month evaluation of the intervention (to all groups) and the dissemination of the online game (to GEc and GCc) took place; and Stage 3, when the post-6-month evaluation (to all groups) took place. Results: A statistically significant improvement has been observed in the Grand Total of the post-intervention questionnaire (p = 0.016) and in the post-6-month (p = 0.009) among the children in the GEc, when compared with the pre-intervention, as well as in the Knowledge and Behavior categories. GCc, on the other hand, did not show a statistically significant difference between the questionnaires, but it was possible to observe significant improvement in the Self-perception category (p = 0.027) when comparing the post-6-month questionnaire with pre-intervention one. When comparing the groups of parents, there were no statistically significant differences at any time during the study. Conclusions: The Dangerous Decibels® program proved to be effective in improving the knowledge and behavior of children aged 10 to 12 years in relation to noise, in the short and medium term, but it has not been possible to achieve significant changes in terms of attitude and barrier only with the use of the program and the online game. Combining a second intervention (the online game) with the Dangerous Decibels® program seems to be a good option for maintaining the changes developed by the interactive class. However, the game alone has not been able to generate significant impact
