Abstract in English
Cancer is considered a public health problem; colorectal cancer affects a large number of men and women every year. It is important that the health team has technical resources to assist the patient in the management of the crisis experienced by cancer diagnosis, contributing to the identification of resources to coping with this experience. The aim of this study is identify aspects of patients' personality, through psychological types, through the application of Typological Assessment Questionnaire; the degree of resilience, through the CD-RISC10 Resilience Scale and social support, through the Social Support Satisfaction Scale (ESSS), in 90 newly diagnosed patients with colorectal cancer. From a prospective nature, all patients were followed up via electronic medical records for one year after data collection. Those who underwent the surgical procedure were reevaluated, after six months or up to one year of the intervention, regarding the degree of resilience and social support. To the ostomized patients, a Quality of Life questionnaire was applied to this population, called City of Hope- Qualityoflife - OstomyQuestionnaire. Patients older than 18 years of age were included in the study, without prior treatment; with complete elementary school. They were excluded from the sample people with a history of diseases that interfered with their understanding to respond to the instruments; illiterate patients and those who had no understanding of cancer diagnosis. The study took place at the Digestive Surgery Clinic at the Cancer Institute of the State of São Paulo, linked to the Hospital das Clínicas of the School of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (ICESP-HCFMUSP). There was a prevalence of males, married and with complete elementary education. Most patients have a predominantly introverted attitude. The functions of consciousness that stood out the most were feeling and sensation. Of the total sample, 70% of patients were reassessed about resilience and social support, but the results were similar in the different stages of treatment. Regarding resilience, the mean was 26 and 28 points, before and after treatment, respectively; regarding social support, the score of 54 before treatment increased to 55 after surgery. Only 35.55% of the patients were stomized and the aspect that obtained the highest score was spiritual well-being, with an average of 7.5. It is concluded that in the care of these patients, it is necessary an empathic posture, with the establishment of trust and significant bond, respecting the limits and beliefs of this population. It is also up to health professionals to behave in a practical and objective way, seeking to provide guidance from the reality of the individual
