Abstract in English
Ankle sprain is very frequent in the practice of sports activities and can lead to joint instability with clinical and performance consequence. The platform of sudden ankle inversion associated with electromyography has been used to study the mechanism of ankle sprain. Objective: test a static platform that simulates ankle sprain movement (sudden inversion), associated with the electromyographic response of fibular and tibial muscles from soccer players. Methods: the platform was developed to perform the sudden movement of the decoupled sprain in three axes: inversion, medial rotation and plantar flexion, with a computer program for reading latency, angular velocity and time to achieve maximum amplitude of the three axes of motion and also of the synchronized electromyographic signals of the fibular and tibial muscles. Thirty football players were evaluated, without ankle sprain, on the sudden platform. Each athlete did 10 tests, five of them on each leg. Results: Among the tests, there was no statistical difference in the angular velocities, latency and time to achieve the maximum range of movement of the plantar flexion and medial rotation. During the tests there was an increase in the angular speed of the inversion. There was no difference in latency time and contraction threshold of the anterior tibial and fibular muscles in the comparison between the dominant and non-dominant sides. Conclusion: The sudden static platform was reliable to evaluate the movements performed by the ankle during sprain, with no difference in mechanical and electromyographic behavior evaluated in 10 attempts
