Abstract in English
Introduction: Spinal cord injury (SCI) brings serious changes in many functions of the body that negatively impact the health and quality of life (Qol) of affected patients. Objectives: To investigate the demographic, clinical, behavioral and rehabilitation predictors in the quality of life of people with spinal cord injury (MSD). Methods: Ninety-five adults with chronic SCI were evaluated with the following instruments: World Health Organization Quality of Life Bref; International SCI Core Data Set; Clinical interview (health status and access to a rehabilitation program); Spinal Cord Injury Secondary Conditions Scale; Numerical scale of pain intensity; Short-Form 12 Health Survey - item 8 (how much pain hinders activities); Numerical fatigue scale and Patient Health Questionnaire 2. Results: The factors that decreased quality of life were mild or severe fatigue in 11.5%; risk of depression between 5.5 and 12.8%; pain in 1.3% in total quality of life and between 8.6 and 9.6% in the physical domain and sores in 15.6% in the physical domain. The practice of sports increases the total quality of life by 14.4%, 17.2% in the physical domain, 11.9% in the psychological domain and 23.7% in the social domain. Conclusions: Fatigue, pain, risk of depression and sores are predictors of poor quality of life and the practice of better quality of life sports for people with spinal cord injury
