Abstract in English
This dissertation aimed to understand, through narratives from women living in the periphery of São Paulo who had COVID-19, the experiences of illness and care from the perspective of vulnerability and intersectionality. In this qualitative research, participants were recruited from a Hospital cohort, from a Basic Health Unit and by the snowball method. Interviews were conducted remotely, individually and with a semi-structured script. Twenty-two women were interviewed, from 24 to 61 years old. As a result, the main themes found were (1) illness experience, (2) care in health services, (3) single mothers, (4) financial insecurity, (5) domestic violence, and (6) faith. The experience of getting sick from COVID-19 and its consequences reveal important social and programmatic dimensions, relevant for health care appropriate to the needs of women living in the periphery of São Paulo. The importance of this research lies in studying the pandemic from a multidimensional perspective. With these narratives, we highlight the vulnerabilities present in a peripheral territory and the existing response capacities to advance in the integrality of care
