A profilaxia pré-exposição sexual ao HIV (PrEP) tem renovado as esperanças de diferentes atores sociais envolvidos no controle da epidemia do HIV. Embora se note, nos últimos anos, um notável aumento das publicações sob diferentes aspectos relacionados à profilaxia, há poucos estudos com os segmentos da população em situação de maior precariedade e dificuldade no acesso, uso e adesão a ela. Nesse sentido, o objetivo desta tese, em formato de compilação de artigos, é caracterizar e analisar a diversidade de contextos e experiências com o uso da PrEP de jovens e adultos gays, bissexuais e outros homens que fazem sexo com homens (HSH), em distintas cidades e estados do Brasil, com pertencimentos diferenciados de identidade de gênero, condições socias e raciais, a partir de uma perspectiva interseccional sensível ao modo como essas categorias de pertencimento interagem, potencializando ou dirimindo facilidades e barreiras ao continuum do cuidado em PrEP. Em termos metodológicos, as análises que os artigos apresentam são oriundas de componentes qualitativos dos estudos Combina! e PrEP 15-19, com uso de entrevistas semiestruturadas com participantes de ambos os estudos. Os dois artigos que compõem a tese foram publicados em periódicos científicos. Adicionalmente, dois Post Scriptum, um para cada artigo, apresentam e discutem em maior profundidade importantes aspectos emergentes em cada manuscrito. No primeiro artigo, PrEP experiences of adolescent gay and bisexual men: an intersectional analysis, exploramos as percepções e experiências de jovens gays, bissexuais e outros HSH sobre a busca, uso e adesão à PrEP a partir da intersecção dos marcadores sociais da diferencia (MSD) e como eles constituem barreiras e facilitadores ao continuum do cuidado de PrEP. No primeiro Post Scriptum, sugerimos uma proposta inicial de classificação dos tipos de pesquisa interseccional, que leva em consideração o momento em que a interseccionalidade foi inserida no percurso da pesquisa. Além disso, discorremos sobre importantes dilemas de pesquisa que emergiram durante as análises e escrita do artigo. No segundo artigo, A profilaxia pré-exposição ao HIV (PrEP) entre homens que fazem sexo com homens: comunicação, engajamento e redes sociais de pares, objetivamos compreender como as informações que subsidiam a decisão de usar PrEP são compartilhadas entre HSH nas redes sociais de pares (presenciais e virtuais), bem como as motivações para a revelação e publicização do uso da profilaxia nesse contexto e suas repercussões. No segundo Post Scriptum, retomamos e ampliamos a discussão apresentada no segundo manuscrito acerca das três hipóteses que estimulam a decisão por publicização do uso da PrEP entre HSH no contexto das redes sociais de pares presenciais e virtuais

HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) has renewed the hopes of different social actors involved in controlling the HIV epidemic. Although there has been a notable increase in publications in recent years on different aspects related to prophylaxis, there are few studies with segments of the population in situations of greater precariousness and difficulty in accessing, using, and adhering to it. In this sense, the objective of this thesis, in the format of a compilation of articles, is to characterize and analyze the diversity of contexts and experiences with the use of PrEP by gay, bisexual and other young people and adults who have sex with men (MSM), in different cities and states of Brazil, with differentiated belongings of gender identity, social and racial conditions, from an intersectional perspective sensitive to the way these categories of belonging interact, enhancing or eliminating facilities and barriers to the continuum of care in PrEP. In methodological terms, the articles' analyses come from qualitative components of the Combina! and PrEP 15-19, using semi-structured interviews with participants from both studies. The two articles that make up the thesis were published in scientific journals. Additionally, two Post Scriptum, one for each article, present and discuss important aspects emerging in each manuscript in greater depth. In the first article, PrEP experiences of adolescent gay and bisexual men: an intersectional analysis, we explore the perceptions and experiences of young gay, bisexual and other MSM about seeking, using and adhering to PrEP from the intersection of social markers of difference (MSD) and how they constitute barriers and enablers to the PrEP continuum of care. In the first Post Scriptum, we suggest an initial proposal for classifying the types of intersectional research, which considers the moment in which intersectionality was inserted in the course of the research. In addition, we discuss essential research dilemmas that emerged during the analysis and writing of the article. In the second article, Pre-exposure prophylaxis to HIV (PrEP) among men who have sex with men: communication, engagement and peer social networks, we aim to understand how the information that supports the decision to use PrEP is shared among MSM in social networks of peers (face-to-face and virtual), as well as the motivations for disclosing and publicizing the use of prophylaxis in this context and its repercussions. In the second Post Scriptum, we resumed and expanded the discussion presented in the second manuscript about the three hypotheses that stimulate the decision to publicize the use of PrEP among MSM in the context of social networks of face-to-face and virtual peers
