Abstract in English
Dental work has been the subject of research in Brazil and in the world, however, there are few that have their base based on the socio-historical perspective. In this way, the objective was to answer the following question: how did the occupations of dealing with the tooth become modern dental work? In this sense, this thesis deals with the historical recovery of dental work (1950-1980) from memory, that is, their Work Life Stories from part of their corporation, which had the city of Recife. Contextualizing it, documentary sources were also used, with the aim of creating a narrative about the historical roots of this practice. Thus, the practice of dealing with teeth seemed like a pulverized practice, carried out by different agents during Colonial Brazil and until the institutionalization of dental work in 1964. The latter being characterized since its modernization by a work of relative autonomy, without direct control roughly speaking of attracting customers and working instruments, but preserving technical autonomy
