Abstract in English
The debate on teaching history indicates that meaningful learning occurs when the student is encouraged to adopt a critical attitude towards the object of knowledge. However, different factors limit the teaching practices of the subject and encourage a factual teaching that does not pose any problems. The National Olympics in History of Brazil (ONHB), organized by the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), proposes activities and dynamics supported by historical documentation and encourages the development of research, discussion and production skills by students. Thus, this research analyzes the differences in methodologies and approaches present in ONHB orientation meetings for regular history classes, the benefits to the learning of students who participate in the academic competition and the factors that prevent the adoption of practices similar to the ONHB in regular classes. Through a questionnaire completed by 50 history teachers from different regions of the country, who provided qualitative and quantitative data, we listed the main differentials and benefits of the project.
