Abstract in English
This thesis aimed to analyze the Institutional Popular Course Program of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of São Paulo (IFSP), developed at the institution from 2014 to 2017, through the Vice-rectorate of Extension (PRX) , seeking to identify the role that this extension action plays in the training of the students who participate in it as extension scholarship holders. The question we try to answer in this study can be presented as follows: how can the IFSP Popular Course, as an extension action, be a space for the emergence of new sociability in state public education? To this end, we based our study on Karl Marx's theoretical-methodological framework on work in capitalist society and work in its ontological sense, as well as Antonio Gramsci's framework in order to scrutinize the construction of hegemony. As a qualitative research, we carried out a bibliographical analysis on the themes of Extension and the Popular Course, and a documentary analysis of Extension at the IFSP. As a technique for data collection, our study carried out interviews with coordinators and students who worked as scholarship holders in the Popular Course Projects, which allowed us to encompass a set of meanings that the action brought to these people, as well as the role of extension as a formative dimension in the students trajectory. Therefore, we consider that the Institutional Popular Course Program was capable of creating significant training experiences, as it promoted the active and democratic participation of students through their performance as student-educators in the extension action.
