Esta tese estuda a construção do discurso sobre a escritora Carolina Maria de Jesus (1914-1977) veiculado em textos jornalísticos. A análise partiu da percepção do corpo especificamente do corpo da mulher negra na sociedade brasileira e buscou entender como os efeitos da racialização estão presentes na escrita dos textos, de modo a encontrar, nos enunciados produzidos, um lugar para a autora fora do círculo literário. O corpus central desta investigação são oito publicações do periódico Folha de S. Paulo entre as décadas de 1940 e 1980. As considerações sobre o material selecionado buscam compreender como as estruturas ideológicas do período auxiliaram na constituição de uma relação de fetiche, na qual o escritor é, necessariamente, nos diversos tipos de representação, uma pessoa que ocupa ou que é destinada a ocupar posições de privilégio na sociedade. Uma das estratégias utilizadas para o cerceamento dos corpos foi a repetição de enunciados e de imagens negativas que, em seu conjunto, depreciavam a figura da escritora: seleção de fotos, legendas, títulos das matérias, conteúdo dos textos. Como referencial teórico, partiu-se dos estudos de Lélia Gonzalez (2020) sobre a falsa democracia racial do país e suas consequências para a população negra e dos estudos de Mbembe (2018) sobre o corpo-fetiche, responsável por inúmeros tipos de violências e de perdas ao longo da história. Para o entendimento da relação entre a mídia e o corpo negro foram fundamentais os estudos realizados por Gomes e Pereira (2001) acerca das diferentes manifestações dos veículos de comunicação impressa e sua conexão com as representações discriminatórias que circulam na sociedade. Constatou-se, por fim, que os discursos sobre a obra de Carolina Maria de Jesus no jornal estudado criaram um campo de instabilidade para a produção literária da autora e, consequentemente, a exclusão étnica de outros escritores, resultando na manutenção das desigualdades.

This thesis studies the construction of the discourse about the writer Carolina Maria de Jesus (1914-1977) conveyed in journalistic texts. The analysis started from the perception of the body - specifically the black womans body in Brazilian society - and sought to understand how the effects of racialization are present in the writing of the texts, in order to find, in the enunciations produced, a place for the author outside the literary circle. The central corpus of this investigation is eight publications from the periodical Folha de S. Paulo in the period between the 1940s and the 1980s. The considerations on the selected material seek to understand how the ideological structures of the period aided in the fetish relation constitution, in which the writer is, inevitably, in the various types of representation, a person who either occupies or is destined to occupy privileged positions in the society. One of the strategies used for the curtailment of the bodies was the repetition of negative statements and images that, as a whole, depreciated the figure of the writer: selection of photos, subtitles, article titles, and text content. As a theoretical reference, we started from the studies of Lélia Gonzalez (2020) on the false racial democracy in the country and its consequences for the black population and the studies of Mbembe (2018) on the fetish body, responsible for numerous types of violence and losses throughout history. For the understanding of the relationship between the media and the black body, the studies conducted by Gomes and Pereira (2001) about the different manifestations of the print media and their connection with the discriminatory representations that circulate in society were crucial. Finally, it was verified that the discourses about Carolina Maria de Jesus' work in the studied newspaper created an unstable field for the author's literary production and, consequently, the ethnic exclusion of other writers, resulting in the maintenance of inequalities.
