Abstract in English
This dissertation aims at questioning the place of playing and gaming in Education without reducing it to its effects, analysing gaming as from its propositions and operations on a language level. Thus, we begin at Johan Huizinga statement that games are the origin of culture, suggesting that, inside of delimitations of space, time and rules, games can establish autonomous proposals capable of creating new meanings which can be appropriated by culture. His approach establishes gaming as something happening inside language, allowing a line of analysis that will bring us to Gregory Bateson, who understands gaming as a linguistic structure, involving metalanguage and metacommunication to reframe other signs. This view fits the linguistic turn, a theoretical current that affirms the priority of word over world and includes authors from different fields of knowledge. Based on this theoretical current, its possible to resort to different authors, such as Ludwig Wittgenstein and George Spencer-Brown, to think about the problems of a utilitarian use of gaming in Education, the challenges of gamification, how games relate to its surroundings, while presenting the idea of playing as a setting for ongoing invention, experimentation, chance and understanding of language structures.
