Abstract in English
Using the methodology of documentary research, based on an analysis of publishers' catalogs, selected works starring black girls and a bibliographical review, this dissertation is the result of an investigation aimed at examining and reflecting on the images of these characters in children's literature currently circulating in the Brazilian publishing market. In the Introduction, I present the debate on children's literature, reflecting on the complexity of defining this concept. The first chapter deals with the elaboration of the discourse on the constitution of black identities through fictional texts, based on Cultural Studies. The second chapter maps out the national publishing market, highlighting the place of children's literature in this context, considering the importance of literary awards and catalogs for publishing books. The third chapter presents the selected publishers and their promotional materials in order to analyze their insertion in the children's literature segment. Finally, the last chapter presents the nine children's literature books featuring black girls published by the publishers studied, which were analyzed based on the categories that emerged during the research, which includes the development of these girls beyond aesthetics. The results point to a change in the profile of published works over the last twenty years, with the appreciation of the protagonism of black girls in relation to the characters elaborated in children's literature of the 20th century.
