Title in Portuguese
O hálito das palavras: ciências (multi)naturais contra o preconceito
Keywords in Portuguese
Ciências naturais
Educação
Ensino de ciências
Povos indígenas
Preconceito

The breath of words: (multi)natural sciences against prejudice
Keywords in English
Education
Indigenous peoples
Natural sciences
Prejudice
Science teaching
Abstract in English
Since purpose is what matters most, the purpose of this work was to find ways in which science classes can contribute to fight prejudices against indigenous peoples. Given that words are like breaths that vanish in the air after being uttered, the words that follow are more inclined to learn something from the air. Along this journey of learning, the knowledge of indigenous peoples, of thinkers who dwelled upon coloniality, and of class- room practices constitute the archive tentative, wandering and devoured of what was attempted. Along this journey science was redefined and expanded, as well as the roles of teaching and the ways of investigating teaching. Towards the end there are several suggested actions that teachers may experiment with, but these actions are less the trees than their fruits. What is most important is to nourish oneself, establish relations with human and non-human things, and, starting from these relations, rejoice on their differences.
