Abstract in English
The objective of this work was to identify and analyze the statements about the work of the teacher contained in the Educational Psychology manuals located in the library collection of the Escola Normal de Botucatu-SP, from the perspective of the History of Education, more specifically in History of School Subjects and History of Education in Brazil. The specific objectives of the research were: to describe the creation of the Escola Normal de Botucatu-SP as part of a Republican project to create a public education system that was configured from the creation of public schools and regular schools for teacher training; find the educational psychology manuals available in the collection of this normal school; and identify and analyze the discourses on the teacher's work contained in these manuals. As a reference for research in the History of School Subjects, I sought the theories of Chervel (1990). Thirty-seven manuals were located, of which 13 were used for analysis, once they presented statements related to the work of teachers. Two sections were elaborated from the analysis, which follows the chronology of the publication of the manuals: the first one refers to a more prescriptive discourse on what the teacher should be and what he should do; the second has a more prescriptive character, guiding and reflective about teaching work.
