A cidade de Santos tem grande importância histórica para o país (Brasil) e inúmeras pesquisas já foram realizadas no sentido de compreender temas relacionados às áreas da economia, da política, entre outros. No entanto, faz-se ainda necessário produzir estudos relativos à história da educação e à grande imigração espanhola, no período que compreende o final do século XIX e início do XX. Dos imigrantes que se fixaram na cidade no período, os espanhóis representaram a segunda maior leva. A partir desta constatação, pensar nos processos de escolarização voltados aos imigrantes espanhóis, mais especificamente os provenientes da Galícia região localizada no noroeste da Espanha , tornou-se uma forma de dar a esses sujeitos maior visibilidade. Nesse sentido, o Centro Español de Santos se configurou no principal espaço de fortalecimento de laços de solidariedade e de promoção de práticas educativas. Esta pesquisa, dividida em três capítulos, traz como objetivo, no primeiro apartado, identificar as transformações ocorridas em Santos, decorrentes do aumento populacional e do desenvolvimento cafeeiro, as motivações para a criação da referida associação e alguns dos principais aspectos que constituíram sua história. O prisma escolhido foi o das relações que estabeleceu com outras instituições e com o movimento operário. O objeto central da pesquisa é desenvolvido no segundo e no terceiro capítulo, que se debruçam, respectivamente, nas ações educativas empreendidas pelo Centro Español, tendo como desdobramento a criação de uma escola, e no ensino de maneira não-formal, por meio de diversos eventos como apresentações de teatro, bailes, conferências e até mesmo a organização de uma rica biblioteca que se configurava em um espaço cultural e de aprendizagem. Nesse sentido, buscou-se perceber como a prática associativista foi ativada pelos imigrantes galegos na produção de uma identidade social híbrida, tramada na convergência de culturas. Para tanto, recorremos a fontes diversas, principalmente os Livros de Memórias e Fichas de Matrículas da associação. A proposta de uma história conectada pareceu ser bem adequada à análise no campo educativo aqui delineado, uma vez que foi possível perceber, nesse movimento de emigração e imigração, as trocas de experiências de escolarização resultantes das idas e vindas de diferentes países.

Santos City has great historical importance to the country (Brazil) and innumerous research has been held in the sense of understanding relating to the economy areas, politics, among others. Its still necessary to produce relative studies to education history and it also the study related to the great Spanish immigration, in the period that understands the end of the 19th century and the beginning of 20th century. The immigrants who settled in the city in the period, the Spanish people represented the second largest wave. Based on this observation, thinking about schooling processes focused on the Spanish immigrants, more specifically those coming from Galicia - a region located in northwest of Spain - has become a way of giving these subjetcts more visibility. In this sense, the Santoss Spanish Center is the main space for strengthening solidarity bonds and promotion of educational practices. This research, divided into three chapters, aims, in the first section, to identify the changes that occurred in Santos, resulting from the population increase and coffee development, the motivations for the creation of the referred association and some of the main aspects that constituted its history. The chosen prism was the one of the relations that established other institutions and the worker movement. The central object of research is developed in the second and the third chapter, which debris respectively on the educative actions undertaken bu the Spanish Center, having a way of the creation of a school, and education, as a matter of theater, proceedings, conferences, and even the organization of a rich library witch has configurated in a cultural, learning and research place. In this sense, we seek to understand how the associative practice was activated by Galician immigrants in the production of a hybrid social identity, plotted in the convergence of cultures. To do so, we used different sources, mainly the association's Memory Books and Registration Forms. The proposal of a connected history seems to be well suited for analysis in the educational field outlined here since it was possible to realize in this movement of emigration and immigration, the exchange of schooling experiences resulting from the comings and goings of different countries.
