A presente tese possui como objetivo geral investigar o desenvolvimento do processo de reflexão sobre direitos animais em crianças de 4 a 6 anos de idade. Constitui-se como um estudo de caso realizado em uma EMEI da zona Leste de São Paulo, região periférica, vizinha à Universidade de São Paulo, na qual as crianças se encontram em situação de vulnerabilidade. Neste contexto aplicamos atividades criadas através de nosso grupo de pesquisa, estudos e ação, portanto, extensão, o D.I.A.N. (acrônimo de Debates e Investigações sobre Animais e Natureza), o qual objetiva desenvolver a reflexão sobre os direitos animais conectado à sustentabilidade em ambientes educativos e envolve graduandas da EACH-USP (Escola de Artes, Ciências e Humanidades). As atividades que desenvolvemos através desta equipe foram aplicadas uma vez por mês em uma sala de aula da referida EMEI. Nossa proposta pedagógica foi inspirada na pedagogia crítica que encara a questão animal, por isso faz parte da Pedagogia Crítica Animal. Fundamenta- se nos trabalhos de Paula Brügger, Helena Pedersen, entre outros, inclusive Paulo Freire. Apresentamos aqui os resultados de um recorte selecionado da interação graduandas- monitoras e crianças, visando verificar como as crianças apresentaram a argumentação delas acerca do nosso modo cultural de tratar os animais, incentivadas pelos dispositivos de mediação. Tais interações foram analisadas segundo os referenciais teóricos socioculturais, fundamentados em Vigotski e Bakhtin. Ademais, também nos servimos das características do desenvolvimento moral e observamos os desengajamentos morais, conforme a teoria de Bandura. Os resultados indicaram que desde cedo as crianças apresentam visões socioculturais a respeito das outras espécies. Porém através de atividades lúdicas que estimularam as perguntas e o contraponto de visões, foi possível estimular o pensamento crítico e a reflexão ética sobre essa relação, de modo que algumas das crianças apresentaram mudanças positivas em seus posicionamentos, demonstrando uma preocupação com a vida dos outros animais.

The general purpose of this thesis is to investigate the development of the reflection process upon animal rights in children between 4 to 6 years old. The thesis is constituted as a case study carried out in an EMEI in the East zone of São Paulo, a peripheral region that neighbors University of São Paulo, in which children are in a situation of vulnerability. In this context, we applied activities created through our research, studies and action group - therefore, an extension group - called D.I.A.N. (acronym for Debates and Investigations about Animals and Nature), which aims to encourage the reflection on animal rights connected to sustainability in educational environments. The group is formed by undergraduated students from EACH-USP (School of Arts, Sciences and Humanities) and the activities developed by the team were applied once a month in a classroom at the referred EMEI. Our pedagogical proposal was inspired by the Critical Pedagogy that faces the animal issue, therefore: Critical Animal Pedagogy. It is based on the works of Paula Brügger, Helena Pedersen, among other thinkers, including Paulo Freire. In this thesis, we presented the selected results of the interaction between undergraduated students as monitors - and children, aiming to verify how the children presented their arguments about our cultural way of treating animals, encouraged by the mediation devices. Such interactions were analyzed according to the sociocultural theoretical framework, based on Vigotski and Bakhtin. Furthermore, we also used the characteristics of moral development and observed the moral disengagements, according to Bandura's theory. The results indicated that children have sociocultural views about other species since an early age. However, through playful activities that stimulated questions and counterpoints, it was possible to stimulate critical thinking and ethical reflections regarding human-animal relationships, since, as we observed, some of the children showed positive changes in their positions, demonstrating a concern for the lives of other animals.
