Esta tese tem o materialismo histórico como referencial teórico e método e o processo de criação da Escola de Ciências do Trabalho do DIEESE (ECT-DIEESE), como caso e momento significativo de investigação. A pergunta geradora que orientou a reflexão foi como a concepção de educação emancipadora da classe trabalhadora compreende o lugar dos sujeitos (educador e educando) no processo ensino-aprendizagem, apropria-se do conhecimento científico para sua luta e supera as contradições produzidas neste processo. A investigação, ao sistematizar a história da formação sindical do DIEESE e sua relação com a história da formação sindical brasileira, possibilitou confirmar a hipótese de que as contradições da educação no DIEESE são inerentes ao seu papel junto ao movimento sindical e dificultam a realização plena de uma escola emancipadora, tal como consta no projeto político- pedagógico da ECT-DIEESE. Porém, ao analisar as propostas pedagógicas debatidas e implementadas, identificou possibilidades de superação dessas contradições a partir da incorporação da prática formativa sindical na educação superior de lideranças sindicais de trabalhadores. Pela experimentação, pode confirmar que o dirigente sindical e o trabalhador, quando conhecedores dos métodos científicos e da crítica dialética, ampliam a possibilidade de superação da separação entre os conhecimentos forjados na luta e os legitimados socialmente pela ciência. Pela pesquisa-participante constatou que é possível chegar-se à conscientização do trabalhador, superando a oposição entre a formação de quadros e a formação da base. Afirma, por fim, que determinadas condições são necessárias à articulação entre os conhecimentos práticos trazidos pelos trabalhadores e aqueles de natureza científica, aportados pelas Instituições de Ensino Superior. Enfim, esta tese contribui para a construção de uma educação superior que incorpora e legitima o conhecimento construído na produção e reprodução da vida no momento em que os trabalhadores-estudantes começam a ingressar nas universidades, por meio dos programas de democratização do acesso.

This doctoral dissertation draws upon historical materialism as a theoretical and methodological framework in the process of creation of DIEESEs School of Labor Sciences (DIEESE-SCS) as a case study and in the moment of investigation. The research question in the study asked how the conception of emancipatory education for the working class includes participants (educator and student) in the teaching and learning process, appropriating academic knowledge in their class struggleas well as contradictions produced during the process. The investigation seeks to systematize the history of creation of DIEESEs labor union and its relationship with the history of labor unions in Brazil. Results confirm the hypothesis that contradictions at DIEESEs education are inherent in its role with the labor union movement and pose challenges to the conceptualization of an emancipatory school, as well as in the political-pedagogical project of DIEESE-SCS. However, results of the analysis of the pedagogical proposals that were discussed and implemented in the study show that these contradictions can be overcome through the implementation of union labor training amongunion leaders and workers in higher education. Results of the experiment confirm that union leaders and workers expand possibilities to overcome the separation between hands-onand academic knowledge when they gain knowledge of scientific methods and critical dialectics.This participatory research reveals that it is possible to reach the conscientization of the worker in overcoming the opposing views between academic and vocational training but certain conditions are necessary for the discussion between workers hands-on and academic knowledge in higher education. Finally, this dissertation contributes to the construction of higher education that legitimizes the knowledge gained at the moment the worker-student begins to have access to universities through democratic access programs.
