Meeting with artists
Abstract in English
This study aimed to find out if contemporary art museums, because of their typology and temporality, promoted meetings with artists with works on display for non-specialists audiences, within the diversity of visitor profiles received by the educational sector of the institution. We proposed a study on the reverberations of this contact for all those involved in this context: non-specialists, artists and staff of educators. For this research it was fundamental to work together with a museum of contemporary art for the permanence of the artworks in the collection and for estimating that it has an educational sector that is permanent or long lasting. The Museum of Contemporary Art of the University of São Paulo was chosen as the research locus. This research is qualitative with selected sample and the research instruments used were semi-open questionnaires, semistructured interviews recorded in audio or answered by electronic message, documentary analysis (institutional historical archive and sectorial archive of the Educational Service) and bibliographic references (academic publications of some of the sample subjects). The research showed that MAC USP has held meetings with artists to nonspecialist audiences, even with different profiles and interests, and it has favored the approach of people to the visual arts and to the frequencies of museums, increasing demand for actions of this nature, including open to the general public. This experience was significant not only to the participants, but also to the artists.
