Abstract in English
This research focuses on the views of young adults with intellectual disability about their schooling, and tries to evidence, following their points of view, which knots exist in these processes, assuming it is necessary to develop other ways of understanding the presence of these students in school life and the contribution their experience can provide to education policies. Maintaining a babelic point of view a concept we borrow from Larrosa and Skliar (2007) which encompass the plurality of the human condition, we appealed to thinkers from areas such as Sociology, Philosophy, Psychology, Literature, Psychiatry and History, thus employing a multidimensional approach to the problem of thinking about intellectual disability which may uncover new possibilities of thought in this topic. By these means, we show how the conceptions of people with disabilities change in different historical periods and sociocultural contexts. So as to make them heard and to assure they are the protagonists of their own histories, we adopt oral history methodology for reading and analyzing the semistructured interviews made with them, along with our field journal. From the study of this material we evince the discursive effects that narrate and, therefore, create intellectual disability; also, we try to comprehend how our interviewees were constructed as intellectual disability students, throwing light on to what degree schooling practices affected them, and discuss how education policies can be reconceived if it takes into account that which their testimonies teach us. In sum, using Varela and Alvarez Uria (1992)s terminology, it is manifest in this work a school machinery which influence the lives of these individuals, establishing which roles and places are allowed to them and which are not.
