This research aimed to study the career transition of former organizational CEOs, recently retired from the corporate career, raising the motivating factors to remain active in the world of work. Thirteen former CEOs aged 60 to 74 years were interviewed, opting for the autobiographical narrative interview as an investigation method. These interviews were transcribed and submitted to analysis, the contents were classified and analyzed considering four significant categories of work: Social meaning of work, Personal meaning of work, Financial meaning of work and Generative meaning of work. The Personal meaning of work category was the most cited followed by the Social, Generative and Financial categories respectively. Respondents consider retirement as a form of social exclusion, wanting to rescue themselves a new space in the labor market. It is noteworthy that for most participants, the need for work is dissociated from the need for salary, as they enjoy stable financial and economic conditions
