Abstract in English
This thesis aims to investigate and to map the practice of meditation and verify its association with intrinsic/extrinsic religiosity and Locus of control among Protestant Christians in Brazil. The Religious Orientation (OR) model proposed by Allport (1950) is the pioneer in research that measure aspects of spirituality and religiosity. Together with the Locus of Control (LOC) proposed by Rotter (1954), they are part of constructs that have received attention from Social Psychology for decades. Therefore, from a psychological perspective, two studies were developed. The first Study is a psychometric validation of a scale (LOCC) Locus of Control for Christians (n = 597). The results indicated good i good overall fit índices for factor analysis (exploratory), maintaining the scale with 28 items subdivided into three factors (External Locus, Internal Locus and God Locus). In Study two (n = 253) the practice of meditation is mapped, as well as the predominant Religious Orientation (OR) and the profile of participants with different levels of Locus of Control (LOCC) among the five denominations belonging to confessional Protestantism. From the results, it was identified that most participants practice some type of meditation linked to Christianity (80.24%), daily (61.66%), and that there were no statistically significant differences between denominations. Participants showed higher Intrinsic Religiosity scores and the mean of God's Locus of Control was high while that of the External Locus of Control was low. It is concluded that the Locus of Control construct, through the LOCC scale, is also applicable in Christian populations, and that meditation is a practice that can be found among confessional Protestant Christians in Brazil
