Abstract in English
The current scientific technical tools, originated by the NBIC technological convergence, allow a passage of themes from the field of science fiction to the field of scientific reality. This movement structures a new paradigm for thinking about the human and all its predicates. Possibilities of transformations appear on the horizon that shake the structures on which our society is sustained. Based on an investigation into the phenomenon of human enhancement, this research aims to contribute to the understanding of new arrangements of power and self-care in neoliberal contemporaneity. This work consists of a literature review from the Foucauldian archeogenealogical perspective, organized under the knowledge-power-subjectivity axis that divides the dissertation into three parts: I) Knowledge: enhancement and its statements; II) Power: enhancement and policies in neoliberalism; and III) Subjectivity: suffering, self-care and organizational cultures. Given the close relationship between the transhumanist agenda and the psychological matrix of the neoliberal episteme (SILVA JUNIOR et al., 2021b), ideas of freedom, progress, hyper valuation of rationality and individualism, maximization of performance/performance, structure new narratives and practices that make insufficient the idea of competition/competitiveness that until then characterized the neoliberal subject, manager of himself (DARDOT; LAVAL, 2016). We propose a reading of human enhancement as a device (AGAMBEN, 2009; FOUCAULT, 1994), which, once it articulates discourses and practices, operates contemporary subjectivation processes. Our work aims to demonstrate that such a conception offers a better approach to analyze and criticize the effects of this process in the debate on posthumanism (BRAIDOTTI, 2013; FERRANDO, 2019). It is concluded that its impacts are broad, crossing from medicine to the man-work relationship, with a focus on contemporary techniques of the self. Understanding this phenomenon provides us with beacons and references and is essential for us to consciously and critically navigate these new seas.
