Práticas divinatórias, leituras psíquicas e relatos de comunicações com os mortos se fazem presentes em diversas épocas e contextos socioculturais, fundamentando-se em crenças mágicas e sobrenaturais acerca da natureza do mundo. Para a compreensão de tais práticas, é necessário investigar os mecanismos subjacentes às perspectivas que alicerçam tais fenômenos e métodos como a leitura fria, com os quais os indivíduos conseguiriam criar a ilusão dos fenômenos paranormais que emergem em tais práticas. Devido à escassez de material sobre o assunto na língua portuguesa, a primeira parte da pesquisa consiste em uma revisão bibliográfica e na análise de publicações cientificas relacionadas à temática. A segunda parte consiste em uma pesquisa etnográfica em meio a praticantes de artes divinatórias, adeptos da bruxaria moderna

Divination practices, psychic readings, and reports of communication with the dead are present in different ages and socio-anthropological contexts based on magical and supernatural beliefs about the nature of the world. For a better elucidation of such practices, it is necessary to understand the mechanisms underlying the perspectives that underscore alike phenomena and methods such as cold reading, which individuals could build the illusion of paranormal phenomena that emerge in such practices. Due to the scarcity of material on the subject in the Portuguese language, the first part of the research consists of a bibliographic review and the analysis of scientific publications related to the theme. Last but not least the second part consists of ethnographic research among practitioners of divination arts and adherents of modern witchcraft
